The big reveal: Strata raising 145k for b:friend
Doncaster-based construction company, Strata, raised £145,000 for b:friend as their charity of the year.
Strata organised a series of events in aid of b:friend throughout the year, concluding in the Strata Summer Ball in Leeds on 1 July 2023.
The Strata team took part in bake sales, a colour run, zipline and parachute challenges, a three-day kayaking trip, a golf day, a football match, Santa’s visit, and much more. They even created b:friend’s very own Xmas Single and music video featuring some of the older neighbours supported by the charity.
The company also hosted the b:friend’s Social Clubs at their well-being mornings in Doncaster for activities such as laughter yoga and mindful crafts.
Olivia Frost, Strata’s Head of People and Culture & Wellbeing Champion, said about voting b:friend as Strata’s charity of the year for 2022/2023: “It’s been an amazing opportunity for us to not only raise money for such a great local cause, but our team have also been able to give their time and come together with local elderly neighbours to support b:friend in their mission to end loneliness amongst the elderly in our community.
“Having a sense of belonging is a core part of our culture at Strata, and b:friend is an organisation that does just that amongst the loneliest group in our community.”
The final fundraising amount was revealed on 19 July 2023 at a special celebration at the Strata offices in Doncaster.
Sara Kopecsni, b:friend’s Communications Officer, said: “We are over the moon and couldn’t be more grateful to the Strata team, their suppliers, and everyone who supported us.
“B:friend works with around 1,000 older neighbours across South Yorkshire and parts of Derbyshire, tackling loneliness and social isolation every day. As a small core team of 8, we cannot tell you what a huge difference this money will make to our charity and the people we support with our fantastic volunteers.”
